On Tuesday, the second component of the Renewable Energy Project was inaugurated in three governorates: Hadhramout, Abyan and Lahj. The project is funded by the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen, the Arab Gulf Program for Development (AGFUND) and Silah Foundation for Development. The component provides 35 agricultural irrigation systems powered by solar energy.

The inauguration of the project witnessed the signing of three contracts between the consulting body, the implementing contractor and the 580 farmers benefiting from the project. It aims to rehabilitate agricultural irrigation water wells by solar energy systems in the targeted governorates, reduce the burden on farmers, and support food production sustainability.

The first component of the project, which was inaugurated on October 31, 2022, contributed to the rehabilitation of wells. It also included the installation of 12 drinking water systems powered by renewable energy, the provision of 35 agricultural irrigation systems powered by renewable energy, the provision of energy for 20 educational and health facilities, and the supply of 133 homes with renewable energy. The project also included the provision of drinking water to more than 62,000 beneficiaries in 5 Yemeni governorates: Hadhramout, Abyan, Lahj, Taiz, and Al-Hodeidah.
