In partnership with Arc Group – Yemen Office, and with funding from USAID, Building Foundation for Development implemented a workshop to form a community council in Zinjibar District, Abyan Governorate, as part of USAID’s Yemen Peacebuilding Support Project.
In the workshop, 13 members were elected from among experts in various fields in Zinjibar District to serve on the community council, which is supervised by Building Foundation for Development.
The supervisor of the Social Affairs and Labor Office in Abyan Governorate, Abeer Al-Nubi, indicated that the community council is composed of several sectors, including agriculture, water, youth, people with disabilities, and representatives of the local council in the directorate.
The Director General of the Agriculture and Irrigation Office in Zinjibar District, Abdallah Omar Salim Al-Qa’ud, called on the council members to be united in addressing the crises and conflicts that may occur in the directorate.
The Director General of Zinjibar District, Engineer Mukhtar Al-Shaddadi, expressed his hope that the elected community council will be a tributary for development in the directorate and will preserve the environment and climate. For her part, the engineer in the Agriculture and Irrigation Office, Mayyas Alawi, spoke about the electoral process and described it as smooth. It resulted in the election of a group of specialists and experts in Zinjibar District, who have extensive experience in their fields of specialization and are heavily relied upon to solve problems that may arise in the field of climate change.
