Funded by the British Red Cross, the Yemen Red Crescent Society implemented a training course on the fundamentals of community-based psychosocial support for healthcare workers in primary healthcare centers affiliated with the Red Crescent in the city of Seiyun, Hadhramout. The training is part of the Flexible Community Healthcare project in Yemen.
Fifteen healthcare workers from the Yemen Red Crescent Society’s branch in Hadhramout will receive theoretical and practical knowledge, information, experiences, and skills on community-based psychosocial support during the training period. This will be provided by a senior officer in mental health and psychosocial support at the Yemen Red Crescent Society.
During the opening session, Dr. Murtada Ibrahim bin Yahya, Assistant Secretary-General for Health Affairs at the Yemen Red Crescent Society and Head of the Hadhramout branch, highlighted the psychological and social pressures faced by healthcare workers in challenging work environments, especially in areas affected by conflicts or natural disasters. He emphasized the importance of training healthcare workers and equipping them with psychosocial support skills to improve their ability to deal with psychological pressures during emergency response, rescue operations, nursing, and healthcare for the injured.
