  • A High-Level Delegation from German Foreign Affairs Visited Al-Mallah District – Lahj

At Monday (1/8/2022), a high-level delegation from German Foreign Affairs, German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the World Food Program (WFP) visited Al-Mallah District, Lahj Governorate, to check on the interventions of the project of enhancing the resilience of vulnerable groups in Yemen through food for asset development and training implemented by the field medical institution in partnership with the World Food Program (WFP).

 The delegation got briefed on the accomplishments achieved in Al-Mallah District, such as the rehabilitation and construction of classrooms in the district, in addition to other projects to protect agricultural lands and citizens’ homes, as well as paving and levelling rough roads.  The delegation visited Khalid bin Al-Walid School in Shamari area of ​​Al-Mallah district, and listened to the people of the area who praised the quality of these development projects and their impact on the community. The delegation emphasized that the aim of the visit was to see closely the humanitarian situation in Yemen and to know the needs of the community. Also they commended the warm reception from the community and the efforts made in achieving a large number of achievements on the ground.

 It should be noted that the project was implemented in two phases in the governorates of Lahj, Hadramout and Taiz, and benefiting 9,800 direct beneficiaries through food assistance  in exchange for asset rehabilitation and training, in addition to 436,385 indirect beneficiaries through the rehabilitation of community assets, such as building and rehabilitating schools, hospitals, and health units, building reservoirs, rehabilitating springs, water ponds, rehabilitating agricultural lands and water canals, paving rough roads, and constructing flood buffers.

 The delegation consisted of Motneta Shimoka, Director of the WFP in Aden Office, Richard Ragan, WFP Resident Representative in Yemen, Corinne Fischer, WFP Regional Director, Yasmine Kara, Assistant Regional Director of WFP, Suzanne Fries Gayer, Director of Humanitarian Assistance at BMZ, Otti Klammert, Head of the Europe-Mediterranean and Central Asia Section of the German Agency for International Cooperation, Marcela Maserek Development Officer at the German Embassy, ​​and Sergrid Müller, Deputy Director of the WFP Office in Berlin.
