Khabar Khair (Only Good News)

On the sidelines of the United Nations (UN) 2023 Water Conference in New York, the Regional Director of the World Bank, Saroj Kumar Jha, affirmed the World Bank’s readiness to provide technical and financial support for the implementation of water and environmental projects in Yemen.

During the meeting of the Minister of Water and Environment, Eng. Tawfiq Al-Sharjabi, with the Regional Director of the Bank, a mechanism for enhancing cooperation between the Ministry and the World Bank in the field of water and environmental sanitation as well as the programs and projects that the World Bank could implement were discussed.

Al-Sharjabi appreciated the efforts made by the World Bank and its continuous keenness to support and finance development projects in the fields of water and the environment.

According to the UN, more than 15.400.000 Yemenis need access to basic water and sanitation needs. In addition, more than 17% of families depend on water purchased or trucked in, whose cost has increased by 25%.
