Ms. Virginia Gamba, the UN Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict, has released a statement after her initial visit to Yemen, calling upon the conflicting parties to seek peace through renewed ceasefire and negotiations.
In her plea, Gamba emphasizes the importance of expanding and renewing the ceasefire, engaging with the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General to Yemen, and pursuing a comprehensive political process that addresses child protection concerns.
With a noticeable reduction in violence, Gamba highlights the need to utilize this opportunity to support children affected by the conflict and aid in their social reintegration.
Gamba commends all the parties involved in their efforts to prevent severe violations against children and reiterates the significance of prioritizing children’s rights and needs during this period of ceasefire.
Furthermore, Gamba calls upon the international community to lend their support to the children of Yemen by funding community reintegration programs and mine-related measures, which are deemed crucial by all parties involved.
