King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSRelief) has granted fresh funding to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to extend protection services to the most vulnerable women and girls across six Yemeni governorates.
In a recent announcement, UNFPA stated that it has entered into a new agreement with KSRelief valued at $2,000,000, ensuring the ongoing provision of protection services throughout 2023 to vulnerable women and girls in Yemen.
The statement emphasized that this funding will be instrumental in delivering gender-based violence response services to approximately 900,000 vulnerable women and girls residing in six governorates in the southern region of the country, where protection needs are particularly high.
Under this funding, the Fund will focus on delivering psychological and social support, legal aid, and livelihood assistance to survivors of gender-based violence. This will be achieved through the establishment of 12 safe spaces dedicated to women and girls, two shelters, and the deployment of mobile teams to provide essential protection services.
Importantly, this support addresses the existing funding gap faced by UNFPA in 2023. To date, only 43% of the required funding, estimated at $70,000,000, has been secured to sustain life-saving protection and reproductive health services in Yemen.
