Yemen’s Ambassador to Russia, Ahmed Al-Wahishi, recently revealed in an interview with the Russian agency “Sputnik” that Moscow has generously provided free shipments of grain to Yemen, contributing to the nation’s food security amidst the ongoing challenges faced by developing countries. Al-Wahishi emphasized the relevance of Russia’s decision given the global food crisis and energy shortage.
Moreover, discussions have been initiated to establish a dedicated shipping line connecting the two countries. Al-Wahishi expressed optimism, stating that such an initiative would become more feasible during the post-war reconstruction phase, presenting ample opportunities for ambitious projects of this nature.
When asked about the safe delivery of these shipments to Yemen, Al-Wahishi highlighted the Yemeni government’s direct and continuous coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Efforts are being made to address any obstacles encountered during the transportation process. Collaboration with the World Food Program (WFP) has also been sought to overcome these challenges. This coordination includes direct communication with the esteemed Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergey Lavrov, and the Special Envoy of the Russian President to the Middle East and African countries, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mikhail Bogdanov, who are actively involved in ensuring the secure arrival of the grain shipments to Yemen.
