Khabar Khair (Only Good News)

The European Union announced new support for Yemen, amounting to nearly US $50 million, to strengthen resilience, livelihoods, food security and climate adaptation in the country.

According to a report published on the official website of the European Union, the Swedish Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) has contributed new funding totalling US $49.37 million to enhance resilience, livelihoods and food security, as well as climate adaptation in Yemen. It noted that the recently signed agreement aims to support the third phase of the Joint Program to Support Livelihoods and Food Security, and Climate Adaptation in Yemen (Rural Resilience 3) for a period of three years starting in March 2022.

The programme targets approximately 847,000 people, who are among the most vulnerable groups in society, including women, the unemployed, marginalized youth and minorities, as well as internally displaced persons and host communities. The programme, which will be implemented jointly by UNDP, FAO, ILO and WFP, also aims to – according to the report- strengthening the capacity of crisis-affected communities to manage local risks and shocks to increase resilience and self-reliance.
