In light of UN warnings about the worsening humanitarian situation in Yemen and that Yemen is suffering from the worst humanitarian catastrophe in the twentieth century.  The United Nations World Food Program valued the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s contribution of $60 million, provided through the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Action; To assist the program in meeting the urgent food needs of the most vulnerable and needy groups in Yemen. Without this contribution, the Executive Director of the World Food Program (WFP) David Beasley stressed that the humanitarian response to save lives in Yemen cannot continue, noting that it will contribute to filling critical gaps in the provision of life-saving food aid over the next few months, noting that WFP intends to purchase wheat or flour grains and vegetable oils, which are essential items in the monthly food basket provided to families to help 4,900,000 severely food insecure people in 15 Yemeni governorates. Beasley expressed his gratitude to the Kingdom, represented by the Center, for this contribution, saying that it came at a time of great need, especially in light of the difficulties caused by the Corona pandemic. The statement indicated that the Kingdom’s contributions to support the World Food Program’s response in Yemen amounted to $858 million since 2018, including $380 million in 2019, stressing that this helped the program expand its operations to reach 13 million people, which led to the prevention of A famine occurs in Yemen.
