  • UNESCO announces the start of the rehabilitation of 10,000 houses in Old Sana’a

Khabar Khair (Only Good News)

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) announced the launch of a new phase of its joint project with the European Union to rehabilitate archaeological and historical houses in the World Heritage-listed Old City of Sanaa, which was recently damaged by the increasing challenges of climate change.

UNESCO said in a statement that the joint project will be implemented based on the comprehensive assessment of the damage to 10,000 historic houses in Old Sana’a, which was conducted in 2021.

The organization added that the project will result in job opportunities for thousands of young people in Yemen through cash-for-work schemes.

Over the past four years, 213 buildings in Old Sana’a have been rehabilitated with the support of a joint UNESCO-EU project, according to the organization’s statement.
