The Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen (SDRPY) signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Ministry of Health in the Kingdom, with the aim of raising the level of health sector services in the sisterly Republic of Yemen.
The memorandum comes to improve the level of services provided in the Yemeni health sector, and to provide technical and advisory support in the field of health campaigns to raise awareness of diseases, preventive programs, vaccination campaigns, and rehabilitation of Yemeni capabilities in the field of health.
Hani Jokhdar, Undersecretary, Ministry of Health of Saudi Arabia, affirmed that stressed that the memorandum will contribute to supporting the fields of reconstruction and development of the sisterly Republic of Yemen in the health sector, in order to enhance public health in Yemen.”
For his part, General Supervisor of the Program, Ambassador Muhammad bin Saeed Al Jaber,: This joint cooperation comes within the framework of unifying Saudi development efforts in Yemen, and this cooperation will result – God willing – in transferring Saudi expertise to the Yemeni health sector and will contribute to raising the efficiency of medical services provided in the Yemeni governorates and improving the quality of life. It will also reflect on increasing access to treatment and strengthening the capabilities of the health sector in Yemen.
The memorandum of joint cooperation will contribute to raising the efficiency of the operating performance of hospitals and health centers in the Republic of Yemen, automating business and developing procedures for the health sector in Yemen, building and raising the level of procedures and plans for the health sector infrastructure in Yemen, harmonizing health transformation programs approved in the Kingdom in Yemen, and providing medical support To the Republic of Yemen through the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen.
The SDRPY pays attention to the health sector in Yemen, as it is one of the sectors that suffer from poor readiness. The program provided support for the health sector in Yemen, represented in 22 development projects and initiatives. It also provided support to 17 medical centers by providing them with equipment and medical devices, and 598 equipment. It provided medical supplies to hospitals and medical centers, and 15 ambulances in support of this vital sector.
The projects and initiatives of the SDRPY include the project to establish King Salman Medical and Educational City in Al-Mahra Governorate, which comes as an extension of the continuous support provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Yemenis in various sectors in Yemen, thus raising the efficiency of performance and quality of service provided in various vital sectors affecting Yemen. The project is one of the largest projects serving the health and education sectors in Yemen, and is hosted by Al-Mahra Governorate, at a cost of 225,648,000 Saudi riyals. The first phase includes building an integrated teaching hospital with a capacity of 110 beds.
The area of King Salman Medical and Educational City in Al-Mahra Governorate is one million square meters, in an effort to cover the needs of Al-Mahra Governorate for health sector projects, and the needs of the neighboring governorates..
Saudi projects in the health sector also include a project to rehabilitate Aden General Hospital, funded by the Saudi Fund for Development, and under the supervision and follow-up of the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen, established in 2004 as a gift from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the brotherly people of Yemen.
The hospital has a capacity of more than 200 beds, and the project includes medical equipment with more than 2,187 medical devices and equipment. The project will be built on an area of 20,000 square meters, and the project includes the establishment of a heart center with a capacity of 50 beds.
