A delegation from the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) recently visited Hadhramout governorate to inspect progress on several development projects and initiatives. Among the projects visited was a model school project, which includes the construction of 9 classrooms, scientific facilities, and sports stadiums. The project is 70% complete and expected to provide hundreds of educational opportunities to students in the governorate.
In addition to the model school project, the SDRPY is supporting several other initiatives in Hadhramout. The program is working to improve the quality of life in Yemen through renewable energy initiatives, as well as establishing and equipping a university hospital and cancer center at Hadhramout University. The hospital has already begun providing specialized treatment for tumors in the region.
The program is also supporting the transport sector by expanding and rehabilitating transit routes, reducing risks and damage caused by road erosion, and improving intercity connectivity. Other sectors, such as fisheries, are also benefitting from SDRPY’s initiatives. One such initiative provided fishermen with 100 boat engines and 100 fishing boats, contributing to food security and supporting the living standards of fishing communities.
The SDRPY’s projects and initiatives extend beyond Hadhramout, with over 229 development projects implemented in various Yemeni governorates across 7 key sectors. These sectors include education, health, water and energy, transport, agriculture and fisheries, capacity-building of government institutions, as well as development programs. In addition, the program has printed and distributed over half a million school books and provided 12,978 pieces of school furniture and 26 buses for educational transport across Yemen.
The SDRPY’s programs aim to improve the quality of life for Yemeni citizens while supporting sustainable development across the country.
