  • Sada Organization Launches ‘Daman’ Project to Legally Protect Yemeni Reporters

Khabar Khair (Only Good News)

In partnership with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the Global Media Defence Fund, the National Organization for Yemeni Reporters “Sada” has launched the “Daman” project to ensure legal protection for Yemeni reporters.
During the launch, the President of “Sada,” Yousef Hazeb, highlighted the formation of a network of local and international institutions to protect reporters in Yemen as part of the project’s mechanisms. He emphasized that the project documents and monitors cases of violations, compiling complete legal files that can be presented before the judicial authorities.
Yousef called on international donor organizations and those interested in the legal protection of reporters to support the “Daman” project and assist reporters in need of legal aid. He also urged judicial authorities to cooperate in providing legal protection for Yemeni reporters.
Frieda Abu Dan, an education program specialist at the UNESCO Gulf States and Yemen office, pointed out that the UNESCO Global Media Defence Fund supports the project’s goal of ensuring legal protection and launching a dedicated online platform for Yemeni reporters, as well as facilitating access to legal resources.
She explained that the launch of the “Daman” project involved establishing a coordination group and conducting several discussions on legal safety with 40 Yemeni lawyers from across the country.
It is worth mentioning that two presentations were made during the first event on providing legal support services for Yemeni female reporters. The first was presented by lawyer Amal Mohammed, while the second was presented by lawyer Lamis Al-Hamdi, focusing on the project’s services and mechanisms.
