HUMAN ACCESS in Marib Governorate implemented a set of important awareness-raising activities within the protection and livelihood support project “Safe Space for Women and Girls” funded by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), in order to advance the status of women in Yemen and increase community awareness of their issues and role.

In Al-Matar area, the safe space hosted a focus group discussion to assess gender gaps and gender-based violence, and effective interventions to reduce its consequences, with the attendance of 14 women.

Moreover, 48 girls were present at a community awareness program on time management to emphasize the value of time in a person’s life and to give them a greater chance to accomplish their goals.

In Al-Jufaina area, the safe space organized a focus group discussion to assess gender gaps and gender-based violence, effective interventions to reduce its consequences, and protect women and girls, with the attendance of 17 women.

Furthermore, 3 awareness sessions were held, the first entitled “Towards a Happy Life”, the second on the complaints and suggestions box, while the third to motivate a group of female students on the importance of starting the new school year with a new spirit.

Al-Mujamma safe space conducted two awareness sessions, the first focused on the importance of educating girls, targeting 60 female students at Belqis Girls School, and the second on the value of reading and writing. This event coincides with International Literacy Day, which falls on September 8, to highlight literacy as a necessary component of achieving prosperity in societies and progress in development.

As part of its field awareness campaigns, the safe space also targeted displacement camps in Marib City on gender-based violence, gender discrimination between boys and girls, and the importance of psychological and social health in society for a more cohesive and aware local community, since women play a vital and strategic role in society.
