The head of the General Authority for Fisheries in the Gulf of Aden, Dr. Abdulsalam Ahmed Ali, inaugurated the ice factory located at the fish landing center, Al-Dokyar, in the Al Mualla district. This facility is a part of the project “Rebuilding the capacities of fishermen and developing the fisheries sector in Aden Governorate,” jointly implemented by the Foundation and the World Food Program (WFP). The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries, along with the General Authority for Fisheries in the Gulf of Aden, have provided coordination and supervision for the project.
Under this initiative, several components have been included. This comprises of a 10-ton-per-day ice plant, a 135 KVA electricity generator, a refrigerator for storing ice, and the use of solar energy for lighting the fish landing site at Al-Dokyar.
Dr. Abdulsalam Ahmed elaborated on the project’s significance in revitalizing the fishing movement within the Gulf of Aden. By making ice readily available at a lower cost, the aim is to assist fishermen in preserving their products and facilitating the sale of fish in a safe manner. He commended the efforts made by the medical institution and the WFP in successfully implementing development projects that cater to the needs of the local citizens.
