  • A $170 Million Grant for Yemen to Restore Vital Urban Services and Support Access to Climate-Resilient Rural Roads

Khabar Khair (Only Good News)

The World Bank announced on Twitter that it has provided support for 3 million beneficiaries by creating 1.5 million person-days of work, and restoring 240 kilometers of roads, and helping 1.2 million people to gain access to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services. However, there are still huge unmet needs in Yemen for urban infrastructure and services due to the scale of the damage caused by the conflict.

The new funding will expand the activities supported by the original project, and will focus more on building the resilience of Yemeni cities to climate change. It will also continue to support efforts to restore essential urban services affected by the conflict and recent floods that hit the country.

In light of these needs, the second phase of the Yemen Integrated Urban Services Emergency Project was launched in June 2021, which is a $50 million IDA operation aimed at beginning the restoration of urban services to an estimated 1.5 million people affected by floods and conflict revolving.
