Khabar Khair (Only Good News)

Funded by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Humanitarian Access implemented a number of targeted activities in the governorates of Shabwa, Al-Mahra and Ma’rib, within the framework of the Protection and Livelihood Support and “Safe Spaces for Women and Girls” project. The activities aimed to advance and empower women in all walks of life, and to ensure the effectiveness of the important role they play.
In Ma’rib Governorate, the safe space in the airport area implemented a life, marketing and financial skills course for female beneficiaries of vocational training in the field of sewing to provide them with important knowledge about the market, management and marketing methods. Community awareness sessions were also held. They addressed the importance of girls’ education, in addition to implementing group support sessions for the Humanitarian Access Team on the importance of focus and factors for its success.
In the city of Ataq, Shabwa, the safe space concluded a training course in the field of mobile phone maintenance and programming to qualify a staff of women specialized in this specific field as a gateway to establishing their own business and becoming self-reliant. In the city of Al-Ghaydah, Al-Mahra, the safe space concluded a professional course in the field of hairdressing for 13 beneficiaries to qualify them to enter the labor market and earn a living.
In Al Jufaina area, the space carried out community awareness on the importance of girls’ education and the dangers of domestic violence, in the presence of 30 women. It also carried out psychological support on psychological fragility and the danger of exaggerating problems, in the presence of 50 women. The space organized a second bazaar for the products of trainees in the field of sewing and clothing design, numbering 17 trainees. The bazaar contained a variety of shapes and wonderful products at low prices, confirming that the trainees benefited from vocational qualification and their ability to compete. In Wadi Ma’rib, the safe space held the third quarterly peer network meeting; to review the progress of activities and events, and upcoming plans to mobilize and advocate for women’s issues. The space also concluded school awareness activities to motivate female students for the new academic year, which targeted 700 female middle and high school students to urge them to continue education to ensure their future.
