In cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the Ministry of Human Rights ” the National Technical Committee to Combat Human Trafficking” organized an event on the occasion of the International Day against Trafficking in persons at the Sana’a Culture House on Sunday.

At the event, the Deputy Chief of Mission of the International Organization for Migration, Matt Hooper, stressed the importance of commemorating the International Day for Combating Trafficking in Persons to publicize the suffering of victims, promote their rights, and raise public awareness of the seriousness of human trafficking crimes.

He considered human trafficking a violation of human rights and a crime against humanity, and explained that Yemen is one of the countries that have made a lot of efforts and achieved success in combating human trafficking. These efforts have been reinforced by the issuance of Law No. 1 of 2008 relate to anti-trafficking in persons.

Since its establishment in 2012, the National Technical Committee for Combating Human Trafficking has been seeking to develop national legislation that would punish and criminalize human trafficking and thus achieve the lofty goals set for the success of humanitarian work, and put an end to human trafficking, especially in light of the ongoing conflict.

The Committee also aims to raise public awareness of the anti-human trafficking law and of the importance of working with law enforcement institutions, implementing a national strategy to combat human trafficking, intensifying awareness programs among society and law enforcement officers, implementing the law, and providing protection for victims of human trafficking The Ministry of Human Rights, in cooperation with the relevant authorities, including the Supreme Judicial Council, the Ministry of Justice, the Attorney General’s Office, seeks to achieve the goals of the Committee and reduce human trafficking crimes in Yemen.
