This project was implemented by the local authorities with support from the “Project for Enhancing Institutional and Economic Resilience in Yemen” (SIERY), funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme in cooperation with Yemen Aid and the Ministry of Local Administration.

The project includes:

– Demolition of the old market and construction of a new market on an area of 580 square meters, consisting of 24 shops in addition to an administration room, a control room, market restrooms, and a spacious parking area.

– Provision of all services, including sanitation, water network, and electricity network.

– Implementing a high-quality protection system in electrical panels to ensure the market’s protection from electrical accidents, in addition to a lightning rod system and a fire alarm system.

– Insulating the hangar roof and sides, establishing a ventilation system, and installing fans to reduce the temperature inside the market.

– Providing protection for all shops to ensure privacy for sellers.

– Creating three market entrances from three sides to ensure high fluidity during entry and exit for shoppers and vendors.

– Implementing the project using the best types of materials to ensure the market’s sustainability.

More than 49,755 people in Al-Hawtah District and neighboring districts will benefit from this project. The importance of the project lies in enabling local authorities to regain their role in providing basic services to the community, addressing the problem of sidewalk and road congestion caused by fish vendors, and ensuring safe and healthy working conditions for them. The project also contributes to protecting the population from the negative effects resulting from the market’s randomness and enhances economic growth in the region.
