  • WFP-Chartered Vessel Left Ukraine with 37,000 Metric Tonne of Wheat Grain for Humanitarian Response in Yemen

Khabar Khair (Only Good News)

On Tuesday, August 30, 2022, A UN World Food Programme-charted vessel departed from the Ukrainian Port of Yuznhy (Pivdennyi) with 37,000 metric tonne of wheat grain destined for the agency’s humanitarian response in Yemen. The WFP-chartered vessel will stop first in Turkey, where the grain will be milled into flour before sailing on to Yemen.

According to the WFP, the flour will be provided to cover the needs of Yemen, where over 17 million people are struggling with acute hunger – a figure that is expected to rise in the coming months.

This is the second maritime shipment of WFP food assistance to leave Ukraine since the beginning of the conflict in February 2022.
