Dr. Mohammed Jumeh, Yemen’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), announced the organization’s approval to fund five vital projects aimed at supporting journalism in Yemen and strengthening its role in light of the difficult circumstances the country is going through.
Dr. Jumeh explained to the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) that these projects were approved during the International Program for the Development of Communication (IPDC) conference, held recently in Paris. For the first time since the program’s establishment 44 years ago, Yemen holds the position of Deputy Head of the IPDC Bureau.
Ambassador Jumeh mentioned that the Yemeni mission to UNESCO nominated Yemeni journalist residing in Paris, Khaled al-Khaled, to represent Yemen during the conference. Al-Khaled played a significant role in promoting the Yemeni projects and advocating for the importance of supporting journalism under the current circumstances.
He pointed out that the conference approved all the recommendations submitted by the Yemeni mission, including the funding approval for the five projects independently submitted by Yemeni institutions and non-governmental organizations last December.
Ambassador Jumeh stated that the approved projects included: “Digital Storytelling for Gender Equality in Yemen”. “Digital Empowerment of Yemeni Women”. “Artificial Intelligence in Journalism Curricula in Higher Education in the Arab Region” (regional project). “Empowering Media Excellence in Conflicts” (regional project by the Gulf Center for Human Rights). “Enhancing the Safety of Journalists in the Middle East” (regional project).
