In Yemen, in mid-September, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Government of Japan signed nearly a US$ 3.6 million agreement for “The Project for the Improvement of the Port of Aden”. It will be implemented to help improve the port efficiency.

According to UNDP’s official website on Instagram, UNDP Yemen’s Resident Representative, Mr. Auke Lootsma said “This funding will be vital to help improve the port’s operational capacity to handle the flow of humanitarian and commercial goods both efficiently and effectively.”

The grant of nearly US$3.6 million is the third Japanese grant project to UNDP Yemen. Since 2016, Japanese has provided US$11.5 million to assist the Yemeni people. The port of Aden is an essential maritime facility aiding humanitarian activities in Yemen and serves as a main thoroughfare for cargo entering Yemen. It is an essential entry point for food imports and goods that are dispersed across the country but has been significantly damaged in the conflict.
