The United Nations announced on Friday the allocation of $20 million to Yemen out of $100 million from the Central Emergency Response Fund to address the critical funding shortage for humanitarian emergencies in 10 countries around the world, including Yemen.

This funding comes at a time when the Yemeni people are suffering from the devastating impacts of war, famine, displacement, and diseases, in addition to climate disasters, making the humanitarian situation in the country one of the worst in the world.

Joyce Msuya, the Acting Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, emphasized the importance of this funding as an emergency cash injection of last resort to prevent the worst outcomes and save lives amidst a severe shortage of humanitarian funding.
