Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed bin Mubarak has ordered for a comprehensive strategy to be devised to bring a radical resolution to the electricity supply problems, taking into account reducing the burden of power service on the state budget and ensuring a sustainable electric current to the public.
The Prime Minister made the orders as he chaired, in Aden today, a meeting that brought together the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Electricity, and the head of the public Tender Committee for purchasing fuel for power generation stations.
Bin Mubarak highlighted the need to quit partial solutions and move towards clear perspectives to devise radical solutions and real reforms in the electricity sector.
The meeting discussed the government’s obligations during the next phase in the electricity sector, and the plans of the Fuel Purchase Tenders Committee to ensure the sustainability of supplying the stations with their needs, according to transparent mechanisms within the government’s corrective measures in approving tenders and spending mechanisms and achieving effective oversight of this sector.
The Prime Minister was briefed by the Minister of Electricity and the head of the Fuel Tenders Committee on the plan for future needs and current consumption, and the level of implementation of decisions and directives related to raising the efficiency of the performance of generation stations and maintenance work and adopting less expensive alternatives.
The Prime Minister directed to submit a comprehensive report on the level of implementation of reforms in the electricity sector and the decisions and directives during the last period, to evaluate what has been accomplished and identify the deficiencies and imbalances and address them.
