  • Opening of a New Maternity Emergency Building in Hajjah with European Funding

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) announced the opening of a new emergency department serving more than half a million people in a rural hospital in Hajjah Governorate, northwest Yemen, with funding from the European Union.

The programme stated in a post on its “X” platform account that the rural hospital in Al Mahabsha District of Hajjah Governorate has recently inaugurated operations in the new maternity emergency building after its construction and equipping were completed.

It added that the new department includes specialized units for childbirth and newborn care, and it is set to provide health services to more than 540,000 people from the district and surrounding areas.

The programme also mentioned that the establishment of this building comes as part of the Strengthening Institutional and Economic Resilience in Yemen (SIERY) project, which is being implemented in several governorates with funding from the European Union.
