Funded by the World Bank and implemented by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), and the World Health Organization (WHO), the Yemen Emergency Human Capital Project (EHCP) have supported the delivery of health and nutrition services to more than 11 million people, of which 5.8 million are women and girls, at health facilities and through mobile teams between 2021 and 2023.
The project also increased people’s access to primary health care services in over 2,200 supported facilities (78% of all functional primary health care facilities in Yemen), with 99% of facilities able to provide management of acute malnutrition and 98% of facilities supporting integrated management of childhood illnesses.
Additionally, it provided antenatal care services to more than 590,000 women, mental health, and psychosocial support to 180,000 people, and immunization for more than 1.3 million children.
Through EHCP interventions, access to water supply, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services was improved by providing 530,000 people with restored access to rehabilitated water supply services and 390,000 people with restored access to rehabilitated sanitation services (48% of them women and girls).
Furthermore, EHCP reached the hardest-to-reach communities with quality primary health and nutrition services through a network of more than 15,000 health workers and volunteers.
Moreover, it improved access to inpatient services across 26 governorate hospitals, 45 district hospitals, and 19 interdistrict hospitals.
