Aden Governor Ahmed Lamlas signed a formal contract agreement on Thursday with the Head of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Office, Mohammed Rafiq Nasri, for a sanitation infrastructure project. The project is funded by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) and the local authority in the governorate.

The total cost of the project is $5,857,500, of which $2.1 million is funded by the UNHCR, while the local authority in the capital, Aden, covered the remaining cost of $3,757,500.

The project aims to provide safe and reliable sanitation services to vulnerable groups, including refugees, internally displaced persons, returnees, and host communities in Aden. This will be achieved by rehabilitating and expanding the existing sewage network, which will reduce environmental pollution and improve public health in the region.

The project is expected to benefit approximately 1.5 million people by 2026, significantly enhancing the quality of life and health conditions in the targeted areas of Dar Saad, Sheikh Othman, and Al-Mansoura.
