Under the “Safe Space for Women and Girls” protection and livelihood support project, funded by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), HUMAN ACCESS in Hadhramout and Marib governorates carried out a wide range of activities to broaden the scope of Yemeni women’s rights and enhance their role in public life.
In the first quarter of this year, the safe space in Seiyun city, Wadi Hadhramout, arranged a life, marketing, and financial skills course for female participants in a hairdressing and tailoring vocational training program. The program aims to provide the female beneficiaries with basic life, marketing, and financial skills and prepare them to enter the labor market and start their own businesses.
To build their skills in the areas of protection and gender issues, a training program for the safe spaces work team in Marib for the current year has been launched. This training program seeks to develop and improve performance while paying attention to the staff and boosting their level to fulfill their mission as fully as possible.
To bring smiles to the faces of the most deprived children, the safe space in Al-Rawda area and Al-Mil camps organized recreational and awareness-raising activities for children in displacement camps. Additionally, focus groups on career selection and market analysis were held in Al-Suwayda camp to guarantee the effectiveness of the project’s interventions. The sessions were attended by 22 women.
In Al-Jufaina area, the safe space conducted a field visit to verify eligibility criteria for female applicants for livelihood courses in preparation for training them and providing them with employment opportunities.
Moreover, two awareness sessions were conducted. The first focused on community awareness and stressed the value of establishing and pursuing goals, while the second, which was attended by 20 women, addressed women’s rights.
Furthermore, three psychological support sessions were held. The first focused on helping 9 women build their relationship with the Creator and achieve psychological satisfaction, while the second helped 70 female students prepare for exams by employing planning skills. The third session, which was attended by 16 women, was entitled “Psychological Flexibility” and aimed to help women gain self-confidence and support others.
