USAID has trained more than 200 community midwives to improve maternal, newborn, child health and nutrition, and women’s reproductive health.

The USAID Strengthening Healthcare Access Project held an event in Aden, Yemen to celebrate the International Day of the Midwife and to recognize the invaluable contributions that Yemen’s midwives make in their communities.

Representatives from Yemen’s Ministry of Public Health and Population, the National Yemeni Midwives Association, USAID – US Agency for International Development and JSI attended the event to discuss the past years’ achievements and the importance of professional development and support for midwives.

USAID Yemen Country Director Kimberlee Bell stated, “Through the tireless efforts of community midwives and reproductive health volunteers, millions of Yemenis have gained access to vital maternal, newborn, and child health services.”
