  • WHO and UNICEF Launch Integrated Vaccination Campaign in Aden Governorate

Khabar Khair (Only Good News)

The Ministry of Public Health and Population has launched a comprehensive vaccination campaign in Aden Governorate to combat the recurring outbreaks of measles, rubella, and coronavirus. In collaboration with the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organization (WHO), this joint effort aims to tackle the spread of these diseases in Yemen.
The campaign is set to reach 1,267,082 children aged between 6 and 59 months residing in 121 districts across 13 governorates. Over a period of at least six days, 3,025 medical teams will work tirelessly to administer vaccines to the targeted children. These teams will consist of 847 fixed teams and 2,178 mobile teams, with coronavirus vaccines being provided to high-priority groups at both fixed and temporary sites. The Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and the World Bank are providing crucial support for this campaign.
Dr. Arturo Pesegan, WHO Representative in Yemen, emphasized their unwavering commitment to the well-being of children. Strengthening the immunization program is a crucial element of primary health care services and a stepping stone towards achieving universal health coverage.
Peter Hawkins, UNICEF Representative in Yemen, highlighted the life-saving potential of vaccinating children against measles. While measles can be fatal, the vaccine itself is safe and effective. Hawkins renewed his call for participation, urging parents and caregivers to ensure that every child between the ages of 6 months and 5 years receives the necessary vaccinations.
It is important to note that the WHO and UNICEF are working closely with the Yemeni government, partners, and communities to ensure the success of these joint efforts. By combining their resources and expertise, WHO and UNICEF aim to increase vaccine coverage, protect vulnerable communities, and prevent future outbreaks of infectious diseases.
