UNICEF, in collaboration with the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSRelief), has successfully concluded a critical project aimed at providing essential maternal and child health services to over 39,000 mothers and newborns residing in conflict-affected regions of Yemen.
As part of this initiative, a total of 39,281 mothers and newborns received high-quality healthcare services free of charge. These services encompassed a range of medical interventions, such as 15,613 normal deliveries, 6,081 cesarean sections, post-miscarriage care for 2,780 women, and intensive medical care for 2,842 women experiencing obstetric complications. Additionally, the project involved the procurement of 70 Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machines that were allocated to various hospitals, primarily neonatal intensive care units.
Furthermore, in line with the project’s objective to empower local communities, approximately 160 community health workers successfully completed their first year of pre-service training across eight governorates, including Al-Bayda, Amran, Ma’rib, Ibb, Taiz, Al-Hodeidah, Rayma, and Hadhramout.
Highlighting the accomplishments, UNICEF stated on its “X (Twitter)” platform account, ‘We are pleased to announce the successful completion of our project aimed at saving the lives of mothers and newborns by providing free maternal and child health services in 24 hospitals throughout Yemen. This life-saving endeavor was made possible through the generous funding extended by KSRelief.’ UNICEF further emphasized that a grand total of 11,965 newborns afflicted with various ailments benefitted from the free services offered within neonatal intensive care units.”
