A team from the Yemen office of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) recently visited the Benevolence Coalition for Humanitarian Relief to explore potential partnership opportunities in the field of early warning.
The team, consisting of Dr. Abdullah Noman (UNESCO Consultant for Early Warning System), Eng. Nazem Al-Absi (Disaster Risk Reduction Project Coordinator), and the Executive Director of Benevolence Coalition for Humanitarian Relief, met with Eng. Fahmy bin Mansour, who shared information on the Coalition’s interventions in the field of early warning and risk reduction related to climate change.
During the visit, the team toured the early warning center in Mukalla, which was implemented by Benevolence Coalition for Humanitarian Relief in partnership with the World Food Program (WFP).
The UNESCO team also shared their experience with implementing an early warning project in Sana’a governorate and discussed the possibility of implementing a similar project in the historic city of Shibam. This could involve establishing forecast observatories and linking them to the early warning center in Mukalla, further enhancing Yemen’s capacity for early warning and disaster preparedness.
