A technical team from the Renewable Energy Use Project, which aims to improve the quality of life in Yemen, recently visited the second component of the project. The second component involves the implementation of 35 solar-powered agricultural irrigation water pumping systems in three Yemeni governorates: Hadhramout, Abyan, and Lahj. The project is funded by the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) and Arab Gulf Program for United Nations Development Organizations (AGFUND), which is affiliated with the Selah Foundation for Development.
During the visit, the technical team assessed the progress of the project work in the targeted districts and estimated that 1,050 individuals (149 families) in nine districts, known for cultivating food crops such as grains, fruits, and vegetables, would benefit from the second component.
Aside from providing clean electric energy to farmers, the agricultural irrigation systems are expected to improve livelihoods, enhance food security, and support sustainable food production.
SDRPY has provided 229 development projects and initiatives in seven basic sectors, including education, health, water, energy, transportation, agriculture, and fisheries. The organization also supports development programs and capacity building of government institutions.
