$56,000 Allocated to Clean Up Oil Spill on Socotra Coast

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has announced that it will allocate over $56,000 to clean up the coast of Socotra Island, which has been affected by an oil spill. In a statement on his Facebook page, Yemen’s representative to UNESCO, Mohammed Jumaih, confirmed that the organization had agreed to provide $56,560 for the cleanup effort.

The oil pollution on the coast of Socotra Island was caused by a stranded oil tanker some time ago, and previous attempts to clean it up were deemed unprofessional, according to the UNESCO representative in Yemen.
