Last week, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) unveiled a five-year program to strengthen the resilience of communities in Yemen. At a cost of $14 million, the program aims to counter the negative effects of the ongoing conflict.

The program also aims to enhance community cohesion and protect children through direct support, health referrals, social services and community planning. It allocates safe spaces for them, and promotes community-led reconciliation processes to build social cohesion. It also provides additional support to children and youth in education and vocational training to help them find work and strengthen the Yemeni economy.

The program is to be implemented in partnership with the ARK Group, local civil society and community-based organizations in general, and women-led organizations in particular.

International reports indicate that children in Yemen have seriously unsecured and poor. This forced many of them to leave their schools and go to work, which is a crime against their childhood.
