Khabar Khair (Only Good News)

On Friday, September 30, 2022, the European Union offered through the United Nations Fund a humanitarian contribution of 9.4 million euros to Yemen. About 1,000,000 women, girls and displaced people in Yemen will benefit from this amount of money.

The United Nations Fund confirmed in a press statement that it will provide health support for Yemeni mothers and emergency obstetric services to 52 health facilities through the European Support. It will also provide mental health services in two specialized centers. Moreover, the program will continue to provide emergency relief assistance to those who have been recently displaced from their cities through the rapid response mechanism.

The United Nations Fund exalted the funding that was provided by the European Union which contributes in providing  services constantly  to the targeted group who benefit from these services. Moreover, the United Nations Fund noted that the support has been given at a time the fund faces challenges, including lack of funding, increase in humanitarian needs, and an acute shortage of essential medicines, supplies, and medical staff. There are about 1,000,000 girls and women of childbearing age in need for reproductive health services assistance, such as safe childbirth and prenatal and postnatal care.

The EU Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarcic, said: “the EU will stand by the millions of Yemenis in need of humanitarian assistance. “We will not let down the vulnerable who depend on us and our partnership with the United Nations Fund for access to essential health care and emergency aid in a time of need.”, he added.

In the same context, the Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund, Natalia Kanem, said: “Women and girls suffer the most during conflicts. Out of 4,300,000 displaced people in Yemen, more than 2,150,000 displaced are women. Women and girls need protection and reproductive health services.”
