In a press release issued on Monday, Dorcas, a Dutch international aid organization, stated that it has launched a “rapid response initiative worth €100,000 to provide immediate assistance to communities affected by the devastating floods that have severely impacted several areas in Yemen.”

The statement added that the response, which will be implemented by the organization’s branch in Yemen, will focus on three main areas: providing emergency shelter and non-food items, water, sanitation and hygiene services, and strengthening infrastructure resilience to floods in affected areas.

Dorcas indicated that it will distribute emergency shelter and essential non-food item kits, as well as water, sanitation, and hygiene kits to 312 affected families, “providing immediate support to those who have lost their homes and belongings, and helping to prevent the outbreak of waterborne diseases that often follow such disasters.”

The organization added that, through this initiative, it seeks to enhance the resilience of affected areas and protect vital infrastructure by “engaging local communities in the construction of protective barriers, walls, and water channels to mitigate the impact of future floods, using a cash-for-work approach.”
