HUMAN ACCESS in Shabwa and Marib governorates held several activities within the “Safe Space for Women and Girls” protection and livelihood support project, funded by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), to build women’s capacities in Yemen and drive positive social change.

Shabwa’s safe space in Ataq city organized community awareness campaigns about psychological pressures and how to alleviate them, as well as a dialogue on society’s deprivation of women’s rights.

Furthermore, the session discussed issues such as inheritance, the rights of divorced mothers, personal rights, and emphasizing the importance of defending women’s legitimate rights.

The safe space in Al-Matar area of Marib launched two training programs, the first in hairdressing, engraving, and beauty art, attended by 14 trainees, while the second in sewing, attended by 15 trainees, to equip the beneficiaries with the skills necessary to practice these craft professions, as well as to help them earn a living and support their families.

Additionally, the space hosted two awareness sessions, the first focusing on the importance of safety and freedom within the family and how it can be used to build a positive and sustainable environment. The second emphasized the need for women to join the labor market and to qualify them in order to take advantage of job opportunities and emphasizing that their absence negatively affects society as a whole.

The safe space in Al-Jufaina area performed a field visit to assess the impact of a number of beneficiaries, communicating with previously economically empowered beneficiaries to understand how the project was affecting their lives, learn about the obstacles they face, benefit from their experiences, and provide some consultations to make the projects economically viable with better livelihood prospects.
