Minister of Water and Environment Eng. Tawfiq al-Sharjabi, on Monday, held virtual talks with the Yemen Country Manager of the World Bank, Dina Abu-Ghaida, over the third additional financing for the Human Capital Project.

The meeting, which was attended by the Head of the Water Sector in the World Bank’s Yemen Office, the Program Director in the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in Yemen, Fayyad Salam, and the Program Consultant in the Office, Khaldoun Saleh, reviewed the water challenges resulting from climate change in Yemen, and the list of projects proposed for financing within the third additional financing portfolio of the Human Capital Project in Yemen.

Minister Al-Sharjabi stressed the Ministry of Water and Environment’s keenness to involve stakeholders in the initial planning work to identify the most important priorities that institutions need at the present time, with the aim of including them in project proposals for financing by the World Bank He also pointed out the need to reconsider the proposed projects to meet priority development needs in areas affected by climate change and floods, and to formulate ideas that are being worked on with the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) within the documents of the proposed projects for financing.

The third additional financing aims to support institutional capacities and strengthen the capacities of public health, water and sanitation services in order to improve coverage rates for basic services provided, as well as improve quality, strengthen resilience and provide support to existing projects and strengthen their management.
