The Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen (SDRPY) and The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) have joined hands with the Bikar Office of Engineering, Contracting and Trading LTD to undertake the rehabilitation of 250 homes in Khormaksar district, Aden governorate. This collaboration falls under the adequate housing project, financed by the Alwaleed Bin Talal Humanitarian Foundation, aimed at improving the living conditions of vulnerable families with limited income.
The signing of the agreement marks the commencement of the second phase of the “adequate housing” project, a significant initiative aimed at enhancing the living conditions of the most vulnerable families. The target for this phase includes rehabilitating a total of 600 houses in Aden, with 300 houses in the Mualla district and an equal number in the Khor Maksar district. This initial effort is just the beginning of a larger-scale project, as the next stage will witness the reconstruction of over 13,000 buildings extensively damaged during the war, spanning across all districts of the capital, Aden.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Public Works for the Housing Sector, Eng. Ali Ahmed Hassan, expressed appreciation for the benevolent endeavors and interventions undertaken by SDRPY, Alwaleed Bin Talal Humanitarian Foundation, and the UN-Habitat in Yemen. He expressed hope that future stages would witness further interventions to reconstruct the devastation caused by the conflict, targeting both residential properties and infrastructure.
