The United Nations announced shipping 12.4 million doses of polio vaccines to Yemen, after Yemeni Calls for international organizations urgent interventions to prevent the virus outbreak.

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) mission in Yemen have posted on Twitter, that “12.4 million doses of polio vaccines have been shipped to Yemen, and the vaccines provided  will protect more than 10 million children under the age of ten against polio.”

There were warnings of a re-emergence of polio in Yemen after cases were detected  in Sa’adah governorate.

In 2006, Yemen was certified as a polio free country, after 6 polio vaccination campaigns were conducted health authorities that mainly affects children under 5.
