The Exchange Forum on Women’s Participation in Promoting Coexistence at the Local Level in Yemen held a three-day workshop in Aden Governorate, with the participation of women from six Yemeni governorates.
The project, which was implemented in six Yemeni governorates (Sana’a, Aden, Taiz, Ibb, Dhamar, Hadramout) and with the support of the German Agency for Development (GIZ) and the European Union in cooperation with the Women’s Center for Studies and Training, aims to enhance the role of Yemeni women locally in the decision-making center.
In the first session, Mary Christine Haynes reviewed the role of international research on women’s empowerment at the local level, while participants from the Sana’a Forum and Aden Forum presented challenges and success stories in enhancing women’s participation in their governorates.
On the second day of the workshop, sessions were held between the Aden Forum and the Sana’a Forum, which included mobilizing stakeholders in society for women’s issues. The second session dealt with recognition of the achievements of women’s participation at the local level, while the third session was about women’s participation in mediation processes, and the fourth topic was networking between Women to make their demands heard.
The workshop concluded with the local facilitators presenting the results of the working groups in the Sana’a Forum and the Aden Forum.
