In light of UN warnings about the worsening humanitarian situation in Yemen and that Yemen is suffering from the worst humanitarian catastrophe in the twentieth century. The nutritional status of children in Yemen is increasingly at risk of being exposed to dire consequences at all stages of life, as acute malnutrition rates are currently at extremely dangerous levels throughout the country. Almost 2 million cases of children under the age of five suffering from acute malnutrition are estimated, including 360,000 from severe acute malnutrition (SAM). In an effort to alleviate poor nutritional status, UNICEF, with the support of @CanadaDev, provided ready-to-use therapeutic food to treat children suffering from severe acute malnutrition. In 2022, it is expected that 228 tons of “ready-to-use therapeutic food” will reach Yemen. It will be distributed to partners to treat severe acute malnutrition.
