Aden, Yemen – The General Corporation for Telecommunications has announced the start of the official trial phase for the “Starlink” satellite internet service in Yemen. This step comes as part of efforts to improve citizens’ access to high-speed internet, under the supervision of the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology.
All necessary legal and technical procedures have been completed, including signing a service licensing agreement with Starlink early this year, making the General Telecommunications Corporation an authorized agent for the service in Yemen.
During the trial phase, the service will be evaluated by a joint technical team to ensure its quality. Yemen is expected to be included in Starlink’s official coverage area starting next October, where Yemen’s geographical location will appear in light color on the coverage map on Starlink’s website, previously shown in dark.
The service will be available to the public through authorized sales points affiliated with the corporation in most governorates, with plans to increase these points as needed. Modern equipment will be offered at competitive prices, with four main packages at varying speeds to suit different user needs.
The corporation warned against dealing with unlicensed shops or those promoting the service on social media platforms, stating that legal actions will be taken against violators, including the confiscation of unauthorized equipment, and advised citizens to adhere to the laws to avoid fines.
