A Saudi medical team from the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), working at the Nabd Al-Hayat Cardiac Centre in Mukalla, successfully performed a unique surgery to open the right coronary artery through catheterization on a 57-year-old patient.

The patient was suffering from repeated chest pains. After undergoing a diagnostic catheterization, it was found that he had a chronic total occlusion (CTO) in his right coronary artery.

Due to the difficulty of opening the artery using traditional methods, the Saudi medical team utilized an advanced technique known as retrograde intervention, which involves accessing the blocked artery through the left coronary artery.

The operation was successful, and the team was able to open the artery and implant a drug-eluting stent.

This technique is considered one of the most complex cardiac catheterization techniques. It relies on collateral circulation and is characterized by a high success rate in treating chronic occlusions, especially after the failure of other methods.

This medical achievement underscores the excellence of the Nabd Al-Hayat Cardiac Centre in Yemen and its capability to perform such complex operations using advanced techniques, which contributes to providing advanced medical services to Yemeni patients.
