UNDP rehabilitated the Kubbat Al-Ashraf canal in Wesab AsSafel, Dhamar, providing irrigation water to 1,000 hectares and boosting food security for around 6,000 people.
This is part of the Yemen Food Security Response and Resilience (FSRRP) project, funded by the World Bank MENA and implemented by its local partners, the Public Work Project (PWP) and the Social Fund for Development (SFD).
The PWP implemented the first path of intervention, constructing a division barrier, a canal entrance, and control gates to control and regulate water flows. The SFD rehabilitated the main canal and several secondary canals, installed control gates, and constructed a number of crossing bridges. UNDP’s FSRRP works not only to restore destroyed community assets but also builds resilience to climate change and helps make optimal use of seasonal rainwater to improve livelihoods, agricultural production, and food security.
