Aden, Yemen – Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries, Salem Al-Socotri, inaugurated on Sunday the restoration and maintenance work of the administrative building of the fishing port in Tawahi district, Aden Governorate.
This inauguration comes within the framework of the project to rehabilitate and develop the fishing port and its facilities, which is being implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) with funding from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, at a cost of 35 million dollars.
The project aims to enhance the port’s capacity to serve the local community efficiently and meet the needs of workers and stakeholders. It also seeks to improve the quality of services and operational efficiency, and create a suitable work environment.
The concerned authorities attach great importance to this project, which aims to raise the efficiency of the fishing port and enhance its operational capabilities, which will benefit fishermen and investors in this field.
The project includes the rehabilitation of the infrastructure of the main facilities in the port, including the 530-meter-long wharf, the ice factory, the 2,000-ton cold storage, the fish processing facility center, in addition to the administrative building and a number of warehouses (7 units), power systems, and the central workshop.
This project is expected to contribute to achieving sustainable development in the fisheries sector, improving the economic and food situation of the population, and creating new job opportunities, especially for youth, women and workers in the fish value chain.
