Aden, Yemen – On Wednesday, the city of Aden witnessed the launch of a workshop aimed at establishing a specialized legal network to support housing, land, and property rights for vulnerable communities, with a focus on improving land tenure security for women in Yemen. This initiative is supported by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat).

The program, which will last for three months, seeks to open a comprehensive dialogue on the legal and practical challenges related to housing and land rights. Among the topics to be discussed are housing laws, property rights, implementation challenges, methods of property acquisition, joint ownership, and the restrictions imposed on property rights.

In his statement, Dr. Mohammed Zain, the coordinator of the UN-Habitat program in Yemen, explained that the main goal of the project is to help citizens overcome legal obstacles by forming a network of legal specialists. Additionally, it aims to increase legal awareness among the population and enhance the capabilities of the concerned staff.

On his part, Judge Salah Rashid, head of the commercial appeals division in Aden, emphasized the importance of this project in diagnosing and addressing the root causes of land and housing issues, stressing the need for immediate and comprehensive solutions to these issues which directly affect the lives of many citizens.

This workshop represents an important step towards achieving greater stability in land and housing ownership, thereby enhancing legal and social security in Yemen, especially under the current circumstances the country is going through.
