With funding from the Kuwait Relief Society as part of the “Kuwait by your side” campaign, the governor of the Yemeni governorate of Abyan, Major General Abu Bakr Hussein, inaugurated on Monday the Shakra water project, which will benefit approximately 15,000 people. This project included a comprehensive rehabilitation of the Shakra area project and preparing it for operation and serving citizens at a low cost, especially since it is powered by solar energy.
This comes in light of the humanitarian initiatives carried out by the association during the previous periods, as it launched last week the Al-Watt water project in the Lahj governorate, which benefits more than 2,500 families, after it had launched an integrated water project last month in the Al-Shamaitain district in the countryside of Taiz governorate, from which it benefits 3 thousand families.
Through this project, the Kuwaiti Relief Society aims to target the most deprived and suffer areas from water scarcity as part of its efforts to support and strengthen the water sector in the region. The project consists of an integrated submersible pumping unit operating with the solar energy system, building a pumping room, carrying out all the works of a 700-meter-long pumping line, and rehabilitating and maintaining the tower tank of the project. The governor indicated that this project comes within a package of projects supported by the Kuwait Relief Society in the water sector in a number of Yemeni governorates, most notably the “Greater Aden” water project, which benefits the governorates of Aden and Abyan.
